Biotin For Hair Growth

Biotin (Vitamin B7, Vitamin H)

This vitamin is the most well known vitamin and absolutely essential for healthy hair, skin and nails. Biotin promotes hair growth, protects it from drying and breaking, gives it elasticity, and shines and thickens the hair cuticle, which makes the hair appear to be thicker and more abundant. You can regrow your hair with biotin, and it has been proven to increase hair strength and growth.

Biotin is known as vitamin B7 (vitamin H). This compound plays an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats that are needed for thick hair and increased growth. Discovered in 1935, Biotin is a coenzyme B-complex which in turn is part of the water soluble vitamins. Problems that may occur due to the lack of biotin can be displayed as dermatitis, enteritis, hair loss, and nervous disorders.

Our hair is affected by pollution, chemical treatments, stress, and nutritional deficiencies. It is easy to understand that if the “normal” hair (hair that is not being effected by DHT) is weak then it breaks easily, and any actual loss of hair will become more noticeable. In addition to preventing hair loss, we must keep our hair as strong and as healthy as possible. This will make hair loss less obvious. Do not forget that strong hair follicles can better withstand the attacks of DHT.

Symptoms of biotin deficiency are:

Loss of appetite or poor appetite

Sores and ulcers on the tongue

Dry skin, rash, or seborrheic dermatits

Alopecia, hair loss, or brittle hair

Nervous system disorders such as insomnia, anxiety or depression

Nausea and vomiting

Situations that can cause a biotin deficiency:

1. Inborn errors of metabolism that cause a functional deficiency of biotin. In these cases and under strict medical supervision, high doses of biotin-dependent enzymes can activate it.
2. Very strict diets which are low in calories.
3. Prolonged use of medication such as antibiotics and anticonvulsants.
4. Short bowel syndrome. In this condition there is deficient intestinal absorption.
5. Excessive ingestion of raw egg whites. The egg white contains a glycoprotein called avidin, which blocks the absorption of biotin.
6. High doses of pantothenic acid generate an inefficient absorption in the intestine.

Vitamins are substances that you need for growth and health. They are needed only in small quantities and are often found in the foods you eat. Vitamin H (B7) is a water soluble compound and excess B7 is excreted in urine. Normally, adults are told to take 30 micrograms per day.

Biotin vitamin works closely with pantothenic acid in countless metabolic processes in the body. Biotin deficiency is very rare, as biotin is found in many foods but generally in lower amounts than other water-soluble vitamins. You can get biotin through the consumption of liver, kidney, egg yolk, yeast and peanuts.
